NYCC 2014: KILL la KILL Got the Fans All Fired Up!
/At this year's New York Comic Con, Aniplex of America hosted an exclusive screening of Kill La Kill. The screening included the US Premiere of Episode 25 (OVA) (Subtitled) and Episode 7 "A Loser I Can't Hate" (The Fight Club Saga!) (English Dubbed). Immediately after the screening, fans were treated with a guest appearance of the English voice of Mako Mankanshoku, Christine M. Cabanos. As a fan of the series, this was a panel I definitely didn't wanna miss. And boy did they deliver!
First of all, when I got there the line was already long and I mean long like "will they let us all in?" long. I didn't realize how big the fanbase was for this show. Once inside, the attendees received a free Kill La Kill poster. Notably, the speakers were blasting! But the fans didn't seem to mind. They were singing along to the show's theme song "Sirius" by Eir Aoi. As the room settled, the screening commenced and first to be shown was Episode 7 "A Loser I Can't Hate" (The Fight Club Saga!) (English Dubbed.) It was nice to get the chance to watch this particular episode again which tackles Ryuko Matoi and Mako Mankanshoku's relationship and how it show's that friendship cannot be replaced by wealth or fame. I was impressed with the English voice cast as they did a great job with the dubbing.
Second to be shown was the Exclusive US Premiere of Kill La Kill OVA a.k.a. Episode 25 (Subtitled). This OVA follows the events after the show's ending. I won't spoil any of the details but all I can say is...freaking awesome! As what the series has been known for, the pacing was kinetic as ever. Never a dull moment. It never missed a beat. The hyperbole concept is what makes this show crazy popular. The fans were very energetic throughout the screening. Loud cheering envelops the whole room.
After the screening, much to the attendees delight, they were introduced to the special guest, Christine M. Cabanos, the English voice of Mako Mankanshoku. She talked about how and what inspired her to do voice acting. Who's her favorite character. New projects and more. I didn't get a full coverage of the Q&A but our Photographer did manage to take some pictures and videos of the event.
The Kill La Kill panel was truly a wonderful treat for the fans of the series. I can't say enough good things about it. It was the highlight of my Comic Con weekend. As a fan, I'm hoping they make a movie next. How about you fellow Otakus and Geeks? Were you able to attend the screening? How was your experience? Share them in the comment section.
