App Review

Story Synopsis - App follows PAUL, a shy and brilliant app developer, as he desperately tries to get venture capital for his sexy Siri invention from a sex-starved investor, MIKE. Without a new investment by the end of the night, Paul cannot pay for servers and his app is lost forever. To convince Mike to invest, Paul uses his app to seduce a feisty stranger, ZOEY. As the App whispers advice culled from Zoey’s social media, Paul becomes a hipster Don Juan and they grow closer through the night. To the app, Zoey is a recovering jock and Paul is a lovesick nerd, or in other words: COMPLETELY INCOMPATIBLE. Their genuine connection makes Paul’s calculations a little more complicated. Paul confronts Mike that the test is over, the app works, and he wants the investment. But Mike, rejected earlier in the night by Zoey, demands Paul goes all the way. He wants “due diligence” (a sextape) to prove the app investment grade. Torn between a one-night stand to save his app or the promise of uncertain romance, Paul’s choice seems logically obvious. However, when the pair arrives at Zoey’s apartment, an irrational guilt and love drive Paul to abandon his app. Like a jealous lover, the App has other ideas…

I had the chance to view this short film at this year's Tribeca Film Festival. I must say that this short film was very entertaining. What I really like about this film, is it's realism on social network and how the character Paul uses it to his advantage. Paul is socially awkward and doesn't have much experience dating. However the fact that he creates this app that tells him all the information he needs to know about a girl is not only creepy and eye opening. I felt the film was showing us a direction that we may be heading into when it comes to social network. It shows how basically nothing is kept private anymore and nothing is off limits. The simple fact that Paul can access all the information he needs, on his objective target Zoey made me think on what I put on social networks. Paul is character you will cheer for being socially awkward and hope that he gains confidence, but at the same time you start questioning whether he is just capitalizing on information he didn't earn himself. Watching Paul I felt for his frustration about his love and career life. However at the same time I was rooting against him. I found this to be entertaining because when the decision comes of whether Paul will use the App or not made me ask myself would I do the same if I was Paul. The film brings a great dilemma of morality for Paul. If he uses the app and proves that it's successful he will have a career. If he doesn't then he won't reach his goals, all in the mix of this is Zoey who will determine if Paul succeeds based on his interactions with her.

Overall this is a really good short film that I recommend you watch if you get a chance. The acting has great chemistry, the story is fun and enjoyable and finally you will raise questions to yourself about how and what you put on social networks.

1 year after the SAO incident, Kirito is approached by Seijiro Kikuoka from Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications Department "VR Division" with a rather peculiar request.

That was an investigation on the "Death Gun" incident that occurred in the gun and steel filled VRMMO called GunGale Online (GGO). "Players who are shot by a mysterious avatar with a jet black gun lose their lives even in the real world…" Failing to turn down Kikuoka’s bizarre request, Kirito logs in to GGO even though he is not completely convinced that the virtual world could physically affect the real world.

Kirito wanders in an unfamiliar world in order to gain any clues about the "Death Gun." Then, a female sniper named Sinon who owns a gigantic "Hecate II" rifle extends Kirito a helping hand. With Sinon’s help, Kirito decides to enter the "Bullet of Bullets," a large tournament to choose the most powerful gunner within the realm of GGO, in hopes to become the target of the "Death Gun" and make direct contact with the mysterious avatar.

Lenni Reviews: "Queen of Dark Things" by C. Robert Cargill

If you recall my review of the first book, I kinda fangirled all over the place. I'll try to control myself this time.

That being said? Holy CRAP, I love this book! I haven't fallen this deep in love with a morally ambiguous character of unknown potential since Cal Leandros! Queen of Dark Things has everything I love about dark urban fantasy; sorcerers, spirits, demons, magic, and STRATEGY! The character having a stratagem that, while not bringing a Lord of the Rings-esque conquering of evil, shows cunning and forethought by both the character and the author.

This book picks up where the first book left off, with Colby Stevens still dealing with the loss of his friend, Ewan. He's a drunken mess, bouncing from drink to drink til his fame comes around to kick him square in the ass. An old friend from the past shows up with world ending trouble in tow leaving Colby no choice but to face down his mistakes and deal with creatures of such darkness, they're even scared of one another.

Colby is shaping up to be one heck of a character. His growth (or lack there of) from the first to the second book is believable and holds frightening implications within the world of this series. As with the first book, the narrative is broken up with excerpts from Dr. Thaddeus Ray and the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum which kept me leaping from chapter to chapter wondering how the heck Colby was going to deal with the entities being described.

While the whole book feels more rushed than the first outing, Dark Things is a completely satisfying continuation. I look forward to seeing Colby reach even further heights. My only complaint is having to wait for the next one.

Can't get enough of Lenni's writing? See more here.

Four Advantages DC Cinematic Universe Has Over Marvel's

DC and Warner Bros are looking to finally give Marvel some competition in the cinematic world. However in the spirit of any competition you must know your opponents strengths and weaknesses. Here are four advantages that DC Cinematic Universe has over Marvel's.

1. Warner Bros Owns The Rights to DC's Comics Entire Catalog
This is one advantage that Warner Bros and DC need to capitalize on. Unlike Disney, Warner Bros owns the entire DC Catalog. There is no restrictions on who can appear in which movie. Sony owns Spider-Man movie rights, Fox owns Fantastic Four and X-Men. Marvel/Disney will have a hard time on having Spidey or Wolverine in "The Avengers" sequels. Unless a deal is made that will benefit all parties I don't see Spidey and Iron-Man standing side by side anytime soon. DC/Warner need to take advantage of this by establishing they characters in all forms in medium. Arrow has proven to be a success and The Flash recent trailer is getting positive feedback from fans and critics. There is nothing holding DC and Warner Bros back when it comes to introducing characters. While Disney and Marvel will have to cut deals and enter negotiations, Warner Bros can have an all out war with characters on the screen with no worries.

2. Arrow and The Flash TV Universe
If we can say one thing about DC and Warner Bros is they know television. Smallville was a success and Arrow is doing well. The Flash is building a lot of hype around it and this is something Marvel is still learning. Marvel's Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D is still trying to find it's footing on how the show will overall will play out. At this moment Arrow and The Flash are not connected to Man of Steel so there is no creative limitations. DC and Warner Bros should use this time to develop a connection between the worlds while Marvel is still trying to find it's footing. The Flash can be the key to linking the Justice League since he will be dealing with Star Labs on the show.  Marvel is playing catch up in the television world, while DC is playing catch up in the cinemas.

3. Animation
Hear me out before you start to flame me. Just because your universe is live action doesn't mean everything has to be live action. If comics books, videogames and novels are allow to bridge the gaps for side stories to movies, why can't animation do the same? DC and Warner Bros has always been consistent when it comes to animation, for the most part fans haven't been disappointed. We have seen Flashpoint, Son of Batman and the upcoming Arkham animation film. DC has a strong following of their animation and they should capitalize on it. A backstory on Cyborg before he appears in the Man of Steel sequel will be a great way to keep things going. While Marvel animation is good it hasn't reach the level DC offering does.

4. Entertainment Medium Outside Of Movies
Another advantage DC and Warner Bros should use is connections in other entertainment mediums. This is something Marvel might do with Dave Bautista for promotion of "Guardians of the Galaxy." If you have an actor that wears multiple hats use that to your advantage. If The Rock is cast as Shazam have him go back to the WWE and promote. The key is using every card in your deck, if that actor is also a singer do a song based on the movie to promote. Especially since Warner Bros also has a record label this will be another key advantage to use.

Comics in Focus: "Chris Claremont's X-Men" Review

If you're a fan of the X-Men comics chances are that you heard of Chris Claremont. Chris Claremont is on of the people responsible for some of X-Men's most legendary story arcs and characters. Chris Claremont is reponsible for the Dark Phoenix Saga, Days of Future Past, The New Mutants just to name a few. His time period at Marvel's greatest time for X-Men is shown in a new documentary entitled "Comics in Focus: Chris Claremont's X-Men."

The documentary gives a brief history on Claremont and how he got started with Marvel. It showcases some of his early years and how he was introduced to Marvel by a friend of Stan Lee's. From there the film focuses on it's main focal point which is Claremont's impact on the X-Men. The film does well giving viewers an insight look on the creative process Claremont had at the time. If you want to know how Claremont came up with the Dark Phoenix saga, it's revealed in this film. Ever wanted to know how Claremont felt about the resurrection of Jean Grey through X-Factor it's in the film. I like how the film balances Claremont's impact and gives more insight into some of Marvel's works. The film is not afraid to show how Claremont felt about creative differences during that time period with Marvel's artist like Jim Lee. It's very nice to see both sides of the spectrum in this documentary, the creative process and the politics of corporate interest.

If you ever wanted to know more about the man who helped give new life to X-Men comics, this is the documentary to check out. The documentary is insightful and makes you really appericate Claremont's style and creative process. It contains great interviews from some of Marvel's top writers at that era. The documentary is truly a winner.

"Chris Claremont's X-Men" Now on Vimeo On Demand

Chris Claremont's X-Men, is now available for rent and purchase onVimeo On Demand. The film tells the story of X-Men’s creation, which was an incredible journey that had a big impact on the Marvel corporation.  In the 1970s, X-Men was on the brink of cancellation, but Marvel decided to give the title one more shot. Young writer Chris Claremont was tasked with writing a new team of international X-Men. Five years later, it was the biggest title in comics, and Claremont one of comics’ biggest stars.

This film tells the story of Chris and his small team of collaborators, who worked together to tell stories that inspired a generation of comics readers, and led directly to the creation of the blockbuster X-Men film franchise. The story of his groundbreaking seventeen year run on the title is also the story of a company in transition, of how Marvel moved from the free thinking “house of ideas” to a top down corporation, and how the success of the X-Men took away the very freedom that allowed Chris to create. The X-Men is a modern mythology, and this is the story of its creation, in the words of the people who made it happen. Check out the trailer below.

Upcoming Games That I Am Excited To Play

Hello everyone. I was a bit on hiatus but now that summer is almost upon us, I am excited with some games that are coming out in the next couple of months and even at end of the year. So here are my picks. Comment to recommend anymore games I should try.

Boxshot: Drakengard 3 by Square Enix1. Drakenguard 3- I have never played the other two in the series but I won't be missing much because this game is actually a prequel. I am looking forward in picking up this game. I guess one of the recommendations is to either play or watch the walkthroughs of the first two.

Boxshot: Watch Dogs by UbiSoft2. Watch Dogs- So I usually stick to my RPG and JRPG franchises but I would generally would like to try this game. It's out of my comfort zone as a gamer, and it looks so awesome. It's time. As Darkwing Duck says "Let's Get Dangerous" (Random O.0).

Boxshot: Tales of Xillia 2 Collector's Edition by Bandai Namco Games America Inc.3. Tales of Xillia 2- Justin is going to kill me but I will say it anyway: I haven't completed the first Tales of Xillia game so he is probably going to wonder why I have this on my list. Its simple: I AM FREE TO FINALLY PLAY THE GAME. I hope I will finish before the game comes out, which is in August. I. Have. Time.

Boxshot: Super Smash Bros. by Nintendo of America

4. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS-Enough said. Its just too awesome for words. Bottom line it needs to come out, like today.

Boxshot: Disney Magical World by Disney5. Disney Magical World- Since I am a Disney fangirl, I couldn't leave without mentioning this game. It seems cute and fun and yes it did come out last month. However, its still a game that I do not own nor have purchased for the summer so I found a loophole.

Boxshot: Diablo III by Blizzard Entertainment6. Diablo 3-  -_- I am so late. I am not a huge PC gamer except for the Sims. I am not a fan of online play either. With that being said I would love to play this on the PS3. Plus this is way darker than the Disney game earlier.....
      Contrast.

That's it for now. Let me know if I need to pick up anything else for the summer. Games Rule!!!!! ^-^
