Lenni Reviews: Zombie Cat: The Tale of a Decomposing Kitty

With the recent success of “Go The F*ck To Sleep” I did expect a bunch more ‘kids books for adults’ to come out. For good or ill, there’s a market for these and since they amuse the hell out of me, I am proud to present a review of Zombie Cat by Isabel Atherton and Bethany Straker.

One day, Tiddles is just chilling with his kitty friends when a nuclear power plant spill infects some field mice. One bites Tiddles and he awakens as Zombie Cat! It’s a cute story with decent art. The rendering of a decaying zombie cat was detailed enough to turn my stomach yet some gore is skipped. The scene where a pack of zombie cats attack a little girl is thankfully obscured. Still, this is not for the super squeemish or the very young. Unless you want to explain to your young child why Tiddles wants to eat his owner.

I would recommend this book to older kids (say 15+ or a 12 year old with a decent sense of humor) who are into zombies or to adults like me who like a little gore with their cute every so often. If you like zombies, kitties, and silly, gory comics, you’ll enjoy this quick little tome.

Geeks Who Do Music Interview With MikeFly

It's been a while since I did a Geeks Who Do Music post. Consider this getting back on track. A while back we feature artist MikeFly for geeks who do music /www.otakusandgeeks.com/akusandgeeks.com/2011/12/geeks-who-do-music-3-mike-fly.html. Today we have an interview with him.

Geeks Who Do Music Interview With MikeFly

OtakusandGeeks.com: Let’s talk about your music origins. How did you fall in love with Hip Hop?

MikeFly: I fell in love with Hip-Hop when I first heard “Eminem”. I just remember listening and thinking how creative and entertaining his songs were. I always listened to music mostly different variations of rock but when I heard Em his lyrics always drew me in and he always said something to catch my attention. My listening to Em lead to me listening and studying more hip-hop artist and the culture itself.

OtakusandGeeks.com: Who are some of your musical influences?

MikeFly: The biggest influence, who is my favorite artist ever is The Notorious B.I.G, but I draw musical inspiration from alot of artist like Nirvana, Queen, Lupe Fiasco, Nas, Jay-Z, Eminem, Tupac, Michael Jackson, Outkast and Kanye West.

OtakusandGeeks.com:  How do you choose your subject matter for your songs? Is there any particular thought process you go through?

MikeFly: I usually just go off of my instinct, unless its something personal I feel like I have to get off my chest. My process is very simple I go completely off of the vibes I get when I hear a beat and base the concept off how it makes me feel.

OtakusandGeeks.com: Since this is Geeks Who Do Music. Tell us what type of geek you are and when did you really go fully into your geeky ways?

MikeFly: I love anime, reading manga, video games, drawing, and anything dealing with mythology weather it be Japanese, Egyptian, or Greek. I was always a geek after I saw my first anime and got my first gaming system. Over time I became a super hardcore gamer, and a full-fledged otaku. I’m at every convention in my city and I'm always playing some type of videogame.

OtakusandGeeks.com:  You make a lot of geeky references in your music to Final Fantasy to Kingdom Hearts. How do you choose which reference will go into one song?

MikeFly:  The thing with Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts is that the characters backgrounds are so detailed and deep, you can’t help but relate to one of them. I choose based on the feel of the song, and I try to make a characters emotions show in my music. Like if you listen to 16-Bit Romance you can kind of imagine Cloud and Tifa, Zack and Aerith, Sora and Kairi, Tidus and Yuna or Squall and Rinoa together as you listen to the song.

OtakusandGeeks.com:  Tell us about your upcoming projects.

MikeFly: I’m releasing my sophomore project Liberation: The Moon Reader  on October, 5th. The project was inspired by Final Fantasy Crisis Core, Gurren Lagann, and Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool. It’s basically about the moon's orbit around the earth as it records the events that happen in the world, and a boy has the unique ability the see these recordings and illustrate them threw song. It has a lot of production from different producers of different styles. It’s really creative and unique and I’m certain the people will enjoy it.

OtakusandGeeks.com: What music albums are you currently listening too?

MikeFly: Like always I’m listening to Nirvana’s Nevermind album, and As Cruel as School Children by Gym Class Heroes. Also Lupe Fiasco’s Food And Liquor II and The Cool.

OtakusandGeeks.com: Who would you love to collaborate with to do a song?

MikeFly: I would love to do a song with Utada Hikaru! Her voice is just so amazing, and her songs have so much emotions in them, she’s so awesome.

OtakusandGeeks.com: Since you’re an Otaku. What is your top 5 favorite Animes?

MikeFly: Only 5? lol Well 1. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, 2. One Piece, 3. Gurren Lagann,  4. Code Geass, and 5. Future Diaries.

OtakusandGeeks.com: Finally you have the floor. Any final words?

MikeFly: First and foremost I really want to thank you guys for the interview I really appreciate it. I want to thank my listeners and fans for all their love and support! Liberation: The Moon Reader drops  October 5th and will be available on my bandcamp. Make sure you go to http://mikeflytherebel.bandcamp.com/ to hear all my previous works.

J-Rock Band GLAY Concert Film To Premiere In NYC

Hey J-Rock/J-Pop fans living in NYC here is some cool news for you.

Live Viewing Japan, a distribution company focused on bringing Japanese entertainment media to an international audience, brings a new live-concert film performance to U.S. movie theatres as it presents GLAY: STADIUM LIVE 2012 THE SUITE ROOM in OSAKA NAGAI STADIUM. The 3-hour film incorporates footage filmed during a blistering live performance by the bestselling J-rock band that took place this past summer in Osaka, Japan and attracted more than 100,000 people.

GLAY: STADIUM LIVE 2012 THE SUITE ROOM in OSAKA NAGAI STADIUM will have its U.S. theatrical premiere in New York City on Friday, October 12th at 8:30pm at the Big Cinemas Manhattan Theatre, located at 239 East 59th Street (between 2nd and 3rd Ave). Advance tickets are $20.00 and are available at: http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/279390. Additional U.S. cities will be announced shortly.

As an added incentive, the first 20 people to show up for the GLAY concert film in New York City will also receive a special commemorative GLAY notebook that was originally only given to concert goers that bought a GLAY CD at one of the band’s live shows.

GLAY’s original 4-hour live performance took place on July 28th and 29th and was adapted into the special 3-hour concert film, depicting the best moments of the legendary performance on July 29th and featuring many of the band’s greatest hits. Additional information on this special event can be found at: http://www.liveviewing.jp/glay-screenings/.

Since their debut in 1994, GLAY has led the music scene in Japan to become one of the best-selling rock acts in the country and has also garnered a substantial worldwide following. To-date, the 4-piece band has released an astounding 45 singles and has sold more than 40 million albums in Japan alone.

“GLAY is a truly amazing band to see live and we know U.S. rock and Visual Kei fans won’t want to miss this very special theatrical premiere,” says Live Viewing Japan Executive Director Hiroki Kotani. “Drawing from a prolific career that spans nearly 20 years, GLAY has impressed millions with their powerful and dynamic live shows. We look forward to existing fans being captivated by the GLAY’s music and also to the group finding new U.S. fans through the power of this new concert film that Live Viewing Japan is pleased to present.”

The band name “GLAY” is a deliberate misspelling of the word “gray”, which represents the style of music the members wanted to play; a mixture between rock (black) and pop (white). Takuro, the band’s founder and leader, writes most of Glay's songs and music and is an ardent Beatles fan and the group’s music is heavily influenced by English as well as American rock fans. Although GLAY primarily composes songs in the rock genre, they have also written songs in styles ranging from reggae to gospel. Due to their musical diversity, beautiful lyrics and wonderful melodies, the band has emerged as one of the most successful and well known bands in Japan, and most of Asia. The members of GLAY are also heavily involved in a variety of social and charitable causes.

GLAY is also known its massive live shows. On July 31st 1999, the band held a huge show called “GLAY EXPO '99 SURVIVAL” in Chiba, Japan that became the largest single concert event ever held in the country, attracting over 200,000 people. GLAY EXPO 2001 “GLOBAL COMMUNICATION” was held at 3 venues and presented to over 280,000 people while GLAY EXPO 2004, held at Universal Studios Japan™ drew more than 100,000.

Everyday Lolita ... This is JUST the Intro!

As we all know, I am a Lolita to the core! Well, minus the cursing, grills, tattoos ... look! You get the point. My favorite style of fashion is Lolita, hands down. As such, I travel and tattoo Lolita and get asked about the style & fashion a lot.

Recently, I've met a hand full of loli's explaining that they'd love to dress everyday or at least most days. However, the top cocerns are
A). dressing Lolita for the workplace
B). dressing on a budget

Here is my responses to that ...
there's NO EXCUSE! If you want to dress Lolita, there's moooore than enough ways!

Sometimes this gets concerning to me because what girl would limit themselves from playing dress up in an otherwise semi-drab society, right?!

What's your take on dressing Lolita ... or ANY subculture style, for that matter? How often do you dress and would you wear it to work? Is it budget saavy or a "I gotta plan my life" sort-a-thing?

This post is JUST the beginning. I've been doing hella research and trying different looks and snapping many many pictures to give sufficient example of what can happen when it comes to being an everyday Lolita.

For now, enjoy some of my FAVORITE Lolita warnings ... & next week, let's get to work! We'll be sure to take a thorough look at Exhibit A: dressing Lolita for the workplace.

and of course, Oscar Wilde has some FAMOUS words to live by!

Just a FEW quickies ...
Lolita posts and follow-ups to the Everyday Lolita series will NOT be posted during our NYCC coverage. (but there WILL be some Lolita posts related to NYCC)

Be sure to join us on our new Otaku Time Tumblr, for quick geeky & fashion posts. You can submit & share ANYTHING you'd like with the Otakus & Geeks crew!

If there's EVER anything you'd like to see covered, fashion or art related ... or if you just want to send a kind note, be sure to shoot me an email at imani@otakusandgeeks.com >^.*<

Til next time ...
~je t'adore!

If Anime Had A Justice League Who Should Be In It?

What if in an alternate universe DC Comics was DC Manga? What if Japan had Batman? I had a crazy thought of what it would it be like if Anime characters had a Justice League. I started asking myself who would I want in it. Here is my choices. Let me know your choices in the comment section.

Anime Justice League (AJL)

Goku

When it comes to saving the planet I can't think of a more impressive resume than Goku. Goku might not be well educated in the book sense, but when it comes to battle he is a genius. Goku has a win or die attitude and when that is his motto he is unstoppable. His skills and knowledge in battle will make him a great candidate for leader in AJL. However he will have to get his book skills up a little more. Chi-Chi I'm looking at you.

Kenshiro

Sometimes Goku tends not to let evil be vanished for good. Goku is too caring for that, he only kills if he sees no mercy in the villain. Kenshiro on the other hand will eliminate and you need a guy who is very technical and precise with his fighting. Kenshiro might be the Batman of the group. He's a loner, silent guardian, but shows up when you really need him. Don't expect to be having a celebration dinner with him after the battle.

Motoko Kusanagi

Brute strength is not always going to win the day. Sometimes you're going to need some stealth and tactical skills. That is where Motoko Kusangi comes into the picture. Motoko is a skilled fighter, knows how to use a gun, and can go into stealth mode to get the upper hand if AJL needs it. She has a good heart and does what needs to be done to get the mission complete. She is also a great candidate for leader of AJL.

Yusuke Urameshi

I know what you're thinking. Yusuke is a hot head, he's a smart ass, he's reckless, he will only bring trouble to the AJL. For the most part you're probably right, but if you know Yusuke, beneath all that tough guy persona lies a lamb as Keiko puts it. In battle Yusuke is amazing, his spirit gun, shotgun and if he goes into demon mode will surely help win the day. He loves to fight and like Goku won't stop till he wins. Besides every group needs someone with a mouth.

Misato Katsuragi

MISATO is probably what you're saying to yourself right about now. Allow me to explain, if the AJL is going to have a command center base and residence for the team, you're going to need someone with experience who knows how deal with all certain types of personalities. Misato balanced Shingi, Rei, Asuka and the entire NERV team. Surely she can manage the command center of the AJL. Don't let Misato's sweetness fool you, she is tough, knows how to use a gun and won't hesitate to end you if you get in her way. Misato will run the base giving the team all technical information, data on weaknesses and routes to escape. She'll play a big role in my book.

Tsunade

Tsunade has many attributes that scream AJL. She is one of the most powerful women in the Naruto world, she is has knowledge in medicine and she's practically royalty in the Hidden Leaf Village. When you can hold your own with Orochimaru you deserve respect. Tsunade will also be a candidate for leadership in the AJL, she is very smart, precise and tough on her team. She can motivate if need be.

Karas

This guy I would only call for really tough missions, he's a little dark and his style might not sit well with the other members. However if the battle needs to be won, you better bet that the Karas will take care of it. Personality wise I would keep him at bay, but like I said he will be an on call type of guy.

Tekkaman (Blade)

This choice might shock some Otakus out there. I'm surely going old school with this choice, but what happens if we have a space mission? I think Blade and his Tekkaman armor are up to the task. He is skilled, cut throat and his personality could use some work, but he will be a great addition to the team. Why didn't I choose a Gundam pilot? Well because I can't decide who is the best pilot in all of the Gundam universe.

Moka

Another shocker that will have people saying why her. Granted that Tsukune might have to work in the command center with Misato, mainly because he will have to remove Moka's rosario from her neck safely. However Moka in vampire form is very powerful and skilled, she can be arrogant, but one thing she does well is end the fight quick. She is one of the most powerful vampires I've seen yet and you might need someone who scares the hell out of the enemy. Sometimes we might need to use fear and Moka is definitely up to the task.

Lupin The 3rd

When items need to found, treasures need to be uncovered I can't think of anyone else to help the team but Lupin. Lupin is a master thief  great at stealth and getting around, and when trouble is a foot he can shoot and fight. He might not be super powerful as the other members of AJL, however Lupin is very cunning and cunning can be very deadly. He might cause problems with the ladies being a flirt and all, but that is why we have Motoko to keep him in line.

That will be the team that I gather up to save the day. I know that my team will take a lot of management with they personalities, but when it comes to the missions I know I could depend on them. After thinking about it I would say the leader of my AJL will be Motoko. I think she will keep everyone focus and won't take any excuses. One thing that makes Anime special and sets it apart from other forms of medium in film is the fight scenes. In animation you can do many things that you can't do in live action. Today I wanted to show you some of my favorite fight scenes in Anime that I consider the best. Of course this is just my opinion and feel free to tell me your favorite fight scenes as well in the comment section.

Fight Scene #1: Yu Yu Hakusho - Yusuke vs Sensui

The only way to describe this fight scene is epic. This fight has ass whipping all over it, and Urameshi made sure he gave that to Sensui. What really make this fight epic isn't just the violence. The fight is epic because of the rage and emotion Urameshi has in this scene.

Fight Scene #2: Karas: The Prophecy - Opening Fight
The opening scene can make or break a film. The opening scene sets the tone for the movie and how it will play out through the rest of the duration. "Karas: The Prophecy" starts the films off with huge battle and it pays off well. The music, the choreography and the bad-ass ending made this one of my favorite fight scene.

Fight Scene #3: Gintama - Two Men Vs An Army
You have to be pretty bad ass to take on an entire of army of people, especially when it's just you and someone else. The Anime Gintama does just that and it's one of hell of a fight scene worthy of being called one of the best.

Fight Scene #4: Fist Of The North Star - Kenshiro VS  Raoh

There is no way you can have a list of awesome Anime fight scenes and not include "Fist Of The North Star." Fist Of The North Star" is one of the best fighting Anime's of all time. The fight between Kenshiro and Raoh is brutal, graphic and has a lot of heart.

Fight Scene #5: Cowboy Bebop - The End
SPOILER ALERT! Nothing has a greater fight than the fight for your life. In the final episode of "Cowboy Bebop" Spike does just that and what a fight to survive it was. Unfortunately he didn't win this fight.

Fight Scene #6: Dragonball Z - Majin Vegeta VS Goku

This is probably the best fight in the DBZ series. A fight based on pride carries so much emotions. Vegeta has something to prove and when he is in that state of mind he is dangerous. The ending of the fight is pretty epic.

Fight Scene #7: Hunter X Hunter: Gon VS Hisoka

I love this fight. There is something about the little guy taking on the big guy that is just so entertaining. Hisoka  is so smooth with his taunts you can't help but love him.

Fight Scene #8: Neon Genesis Evangelion: Unit 1 Eats
When I first saw this scene I literally got chills. Unit 1 goes berserk and eats an Angel. This scene was pure brutal and one of my favorite mech fights.

Fight Scene #9: Rurouni Kenshi - Kenshin VS Saito

This fight between Kenshin and Saito is a seesaw battle, and it keeps you engaged throughout the duration. Truly one of the best in the series.

Fight Scene #10: Bleach - Ichigo VS Grimmjow
I'm not a huge fan of "Bleach" but I still think this is one bad-ass fight between Ichigo and Grimmjo.

Hello Kitty Superheroes By Joseph Senior

Captain America looks adorable as a Hello Kitty. I love the addition to his shield.

The Flash looks wonderful and the lighting designs are spot on.

Hello Kicky! Kick-Ass looks awesome and he even has his weapons too.

In brightest day, in blackest night. No bad kitty shall escapse my sight. Hello Green Lantern Kitty.

Spider-Man, Spider-Man does whatever a spider can. I love the design on this one.

I know Justin will fall in love with this one. Hello Turtles! This is an awesome Ninja Turtles Hello Kitty. Donatello even has his bow.

Hello Iron Man Kitty.

Hello Wolverine.

Mr. Fantastic looks fantastic.

Tokyo Jungle Review

Mankind is extinct leaving only the animal kingdom behind. In "Tokyo Jungle" you take the role of various animals and try to survive the post apocalyptic world. You'll have to hunt, mate and raise a pack for survival. Is the new PSN game from Japan Studio a win? Or should the animals head back to the zoo?

Story -  Some time in the twenty-first century, mankind left Earth, leaving animals to fend for themselves. The once busy streets of Tokyo are now home to lions, tigers, chickens, and various other animals. All of them are now fighting for survival. That is the overview of the game's plot. In story mode you take the role of various animals such as the Pomeranian Dogs, Sika Deer, Beagle, Lions and more. By unlocking archives in the survival mode allows you to uncover what happen to mankind. The story from the animals perspective is very fun to play through, especially the more vulnerable animals like the Sika Deer and Pomeranian Dogs. Watching the weaker animals trying to survive a  jungle filled with Lions, Tigers and Bears makes you intense to ensure they survive. The story and concept for "Tokyo Jungle" is a blast.

Gameplay - "Tokyo Jungle" can be played with two modes "Survival" and "Story." In "Survival" mode you can choose from any animal of your choice that is available. Your mission is simple to survive the jungle as long as possible. In order to survive you will have to eat, stay healthy from diseases other animals may carry and learn how to fight off predators. The key to survival varies depending on the animal, for example the Sika Deer is a herbivore, this means that they will be hunted by most of the animals in the game. As the Sika Deer you will have to depend on stealth of the environment to get around and stay safe. The game does a wonderful job of staying true to the animals strengths and weakness. Don't expect that a simple house dog can take down a lion in one blow. Japan Studio made sure that the attributes of the animals are realistic as possible. The attributes works well because it brings more of a strategic element to the game. Are you playing as a house cat and trying to take down a Zebra? Well you might want to build up a pack in order to take down the big animal.

In addition to the great attributes "Tokyo Jungle" brings to the table the ability to mate. This mating system will ensure that your animal leaves his future generations with your attributes. You're giving three categories of females to mate with, the desperate female (not making this up) who will mate with anybody, the average female who will only mate if your level is veteran, and the best female who will only mate with you if your a boss. It's great to include the mating aspect, but it becomes frustrating sometimes when the desperate female starts following you and you can't rid of her, unless you manage to get into a fight with a pack of animals and they kill her off, otherwise you will just have to mate with her. Regardless of this annoying flaw it is nice to bring your offspring's along and teach them how to hunt, and have them gain levels and attributes. In order to mate you'll have conquer territory by leaving a mark on certain places that are indicated in the game.  For the most part the places are easy to conquer and it would've been nice to be able to defend the territory but you can't.

"Survival" mode is challenging and fun to play but there are some flaws with it. One of the most annoying things in the game is having a entire area with no animals at all. You can level your animal up to a high level and because there is no food or water in the area that you're in, your animal will die of starvation, forcing you  to start all over. There really is no save feature unless that one time your mating. It would be nice to turn the game off and come back to where you left off but you can't. Another flaw in the game is the random appearances of certain strong animals. Dinosaurs can appear in the area and it will be almost impossible to kill them if you're a house cat or a smaller animal. It can get frustrating building your animal up and just seen them killed because you step into the wrong area, however that brings the nature of realism of the animal world.

Overall the gameplay is solid. It has a interesting concept that will keep you engaged for hours. The additions of completing challenges and collecting clothes for your animals will help you survive and level up. The multiplayer is offline only, which is a tad disappointing. I believe that an online mode would do wonders for this game and add more replay value to it.

Gameplay Video

Graphics - The graphics is pretty good not great, but for a PSN game it's good. Japan Studio did a good job of giving us a Tokyo that has been destroyed. Some parts feel a little out of place when it comes to the tall grass placement, but for the most part the environments, designs and framerate hold up very well.

Sound - The music is very lighthearted and contains mostly easy to listen tracks, expect for when you're in actual combat. The sounds of all the animals are one point. The pig sounds like a pig, the dog sounds like a dog.

Replay Value - Tokyo Jungle has over 50 animals to play with, each with their own attributes, styles to survive and family to raise. With the addition of challenges and trophy requires like trying to survive for 60 years, the game offers up enough challenge to keep you playing.

Final Grade B+/8.5 - Tokyo Jungle is very original and a breath of fresh air. It offers a different type of world which requires strategy. The concept is great, the gameplay is solid and it has enough replay value to keep going. Check it out.

DAVID S. GOYER’S “DA VINCI’S DEMONS” AT NEW YORK COMIC-CON ON OCTOBER 13TH

STARZ will present a first look at David S. Goyer’s highly anticipated adventure drama, “Da Vinci’s Demons,” at a panel on Saturday, October 13th from 1:45pm to 2:45pm in RM 1A21 as part of New York Comic-Con. Goyer will be joined by series star Tom Riley (“Monroe,” I Want Candy), who plays Leonardo Da Vinci, and costars Laura Haddock (The Inbetweeners Movie, “Honest,” Captain America: The First Avenger) and Lara Pulver (“True Blood,” “Sherlock,” “Robin Hood”). Following the panel Goyer and cast will sign autographs.

“Da Vinci's Demons” is a historical fantasy, following the ‘untold’ story of the world's greatest genius during his turbulent youth in Renaissance Florence. Brilliant and passionate, the twenty-five year old Leonardo Da Vinci is an artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer and idealist. As a free thinker, with intellect and talents that are almost superhuman, he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time. He begins to not only see the future, but invent it.

“Da Vinci’s Demons” is the first project to enter production under the multi-year agreement between Starz and BBC Worldwide Productions. Goyer, co-writer of blockbuster and critically-acclaimed films Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, and writer of the upcoming Man of Steel, is showrunner. Julie Gardner is Executive Producer, along with BBC Worldwide Productions’ Head Jane Tranter. Production began this summer and Starz will premiere an eight-episode first season in the U.S. in 2013.

The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 Review

The Dark Knight Returns Part 1

Hey Otakus and Geeks fans, Sean (The True Comic Fan) here. Today I have a question? What happens to Batman when he gets to old to don the Cape and cowl?   No the answers not hire a young Athletic boy named Terry McGinnis. The answer is calling Frank Miller to write one of the greatest Batman stories ever written. For those who aren’t familiar with the story of The Dark Knight Returns, here is a synopsis:

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns is a four-issue comic book limited series comprising The Dark Knight Returns, The Dark Knight Triumphant, Hunt The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Falls, written and drawn by Frank Miller, originally published by DC Comics under the title Batman: The Dark Knight in 1986. When the issues were released in a collected edition later that year, the story title for the first issue was applied to the series as a whole. The Dark Knight Returns tells the story of a 55-year-old Bruce Wayne who comes out of retirement to fight crime, only to face opposition from the Gotham City police force and the United States government.
The Dark Knight Returns is set in a dystopian near-future version of Gotham City. A year is never specified, though it has been a full decade since the last reported sighting of Batman. The author also alludes to the deaths of Bruce Wayne's parents as being on the night of a movie theater showing of Tyrone Power in The Mark of Zorro, a movie with a release date of November 8th, 1940, a time when Bruce was a youth. Virtually all superheroes, with the exception of Superman, have been forced into retirement or otherwise driven away by a populace that no longer trusts them. Bruce Wayne, now 55, has voluntarily retired from crime fighting following the death (under unspecified circumstances) of Jason Todd, the second Robin. In the absence of superheroes, criminals run amok, and a gang called the Mutants terrorizes Gotham City.

              Synopsis from wikipedia

REVIEW
The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 is Fucking AWSOME! DC animation has done it once again making a movie fans will fall in love with. The adaptation nails the tone and atmosphere of the book. Bruce Wayne at age 55 sitting on the sideline while watching his beloved Gotham City falling apart and riddled with crime, trying to cope with the fact that he may be to old to do anything about it.
The action sequences are great, with Batman popping in and out of Shadows taking criminals down and instilling the fear in those who dare break the law. I also love the way they show Batman can still kick ass, but age has definitely caught up with him. There are few times in the movie he struggles to do some of the things that would have been no problem in his youth.

Peter Weller is pretty good as the voice of an aging Bruce Wayne and Batman, but I will always prefer Kevin Conroy above all. Ariel Winter is great as the voice of Carrie Kelly (yes there was a female Robin). David Selby was good as Commissioner Jim Gordon, but Gary Anthony Williams as the Mutant Leader was kinda Blah.

Overall The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 is a must see and definitely something every comic and anime fan should have in their collection. If you loved the comic you will love this movie. My final grade: A
