DC's Legends of Tomorrow Season 4 (Blu-Ray) Review

“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray. I reviewed this on this website. The opinions I share are my own.” - Justin

After defeating the demon Mallus by cuddling him to death, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow join John Constantine and Ava Sharpe’s Time Bureau to save their world – and their legacy – from magical creatures from myths, fairytales, and legends who have infected history. As the Legends time-travel across historical events and encounter famous figures, they now have an added shot of magical craziness.

Out of all the shows in the Arrowverse, DC’s Legend of Tomorrow is definitely the most unique, the campiest and there is nothing wrong with that. I think what I enjoy about Legends of Tomorrow the most is that it doesn’t take itself too seriously. The show is design to be classic hooky, B-movie type of comic book fun and each season it delivers. In season 4 we have a great addition to the cast and a new shift in focus. Matt Ryan joins the cast as John Constantine and this time the season is all about magic. The Legends travel throughout various places in time to battle monsters, demons and other creatures of the Darkside. The addition of Matt Ryan as Constantine is a huge step up for the show. Matt Ryan portrays as Constantine keeps you engaged thanks to his understanding of the character. The more you see of him the more you wish DC will give his show another shot.

The story is pretty straight forward from what you expect from the show if you’ve seen it before. This show benefits from a shorter episode order compare to the 22 episodes in other shows in the Arrrowverse. This gives the show to not worry about unnecessary filler and focus on the main narrative. The cast is great as Caity Lotz as Sarah Lance has really fitted great as the leader and driving force of the show. Brandon Routh always brings the charm as Ray Palmer. Dominic Purcell one-liners and delivery as the crazy rogue Heatwave is a crowd-pleaser. The action scenes are great and the change to focus on encountering monsters across different timelines is a refreshing take. I will say if there are any complaints is with the pacing and some of the story. Villains that I felt could have more of a backstory didn’t get any. Some of the campy feels go way too over the top especially when they visit period piece times. Overall it is a solid fun season and I’m looking forward to Season 4.

Final Rating - B-

Season 4 is now available on Blu-Ray and DVD.
