Birthright Vol 3 (Comic Review)
/After a standoff in the police station, the Rhodes family is on the run from the law, and for their lives. And just what horrors did Mikey survive while he was away?
Birthright Vol 3 is more of a set up for the events to come in future volumes. We get a little more backstory on what Mikey was doing in the other world. In the other world Mikey main goal is trying to get back home. He doesn't want to be the chosen one. He decides to run away only to be caught by some of Rook's friends. Things get very interesting when a new character named Kallista shows up to the scene. Kallista is a character I found very intrigued by her few panels on the page. She is right hand of Lore and very deadly. I felt the writers introduced her very well as presenting her as a badass but ruthless. One line that stuck with me with her character was βThe death ahead of us won't be as boring as this one.β I'm hoping to find out more on her backstory, since the character was revealed to be a trader. Things on the world of monsters, magics and war is looking pretty dark for young Mikey.
However on the other side of the coin. The Rhodes family have decided to take the chance and believe Mikey. Everyone but the mother has decided to aid Mikey in his escape. The conflict between Aaron and his wife contiunes in this issue but unfortunately it takes a backseat. I enjoyed the conflict between the two in the first and second volumes. Unfortunately the conflict kind of just ends abruptly in this volume to build more time for Mikey and Brennan. The relationship between Mikey and Brennan is explored more in this issue. I like how Brennan releases some information on how Mikey's absence ruin the family. Overall the foreshadowing of dark days ahead for the Rhodes is great. This wasn't an action pack issue but it did a great step in characterization.
