Writers and Artists: Gatchaman, Flash Gordon, Dick Tracy, Scott Pilgrim @NY Comic Con 2023
/Behind the scenes of all the best comic books are the writers and artists. It's worth getting familiar with them, and at NY Comic Con 2023, we present some of these creatives from behind the curtains.
New titles to be published by Mad Cave Studios include:
Gatchaman with writers Tommy Lee Edwards (left) and Steve Orlando (right)
SO: I’m one of the 3 writers on Gatchaman for Mad Cave. We’re going to be doing stuff mostly focusing on Red Impulse, Galactor and things like that.
TLE: It's great to write for something that (got me) started drawing at a young age. It's one of the few existing properties that I can write with the most confidence - I really understand it and am a huge fan.
We're doing a mini-series that focus on different and new characters, exploring stuff like a whole story all about Galactor. How cool is that? It's something fans watch and go "I wish I could do a story about this" - and now we get to do that!
Flash Gordon writer, Jeremy Adams
JA: I just love Flash Gordon, I love sci-fi adventures and Flash has been one of the oldest along with like, Buck Rogers. So taking somebody that's kind of a square-jawed hero on an adventure through space; it's very accessible, it's gonna be a blast!
It gives me a lot of opportunity to just explore and do wacky things within the comic book, but in an exciting and adventurous way that everybody can read.
Dick Tracy writer, Alex Segura
AS: I've been a fan since the movie came out when I was a kid, and I got really into the newspaper comic strips.
I'm a crime writer as well! I write crime novels and I really wanted to bring like a gritty, noir approach to the character. He's got an amazing rogue's gallery so it's a great opportunity.
Scott Pilgrim Creator, Bryan Lee O'Malley
And we also have the very colorful Bryan Lee O'Malley, the creator of Scott Pilgrim who has both comics and animations coming soon.
BLO: I'm Bryan Lee O'Malley and I created the Scott Pilgrim comics... and here I am [at Comic Con]! :) This is a print that I did last year (see photo above) based on the classic Jim Lee swimsuit issue; a Scott Pilgrim swimsuit poster.
