Japanese Band Do As Infinity to Hold Acoustic Livestream Concert in December
/Posted by Justin D Williams
Long-running pop and rock band Do As Infinity have announced an online acoustic concert, to be livestreamed to fans around the world on December 19, 2020.
The first ever livestream concert in the band’s 21-year career will be performed by the central duo of vocalist Tomiko Van and guitarist/vocalist Ryo Owatari. Rather than the powerful rock sound of their regular concerts where they perform with a full backing band, this will be an intimate, stripped-down show by only the two founding members, featuring hits from their extensive repertoire specially arranged for an acoustic setup. Also expect between-song conversation filled with character and heart, as Van and Owatari offer a live performance that will warm up the winter season.
‘Do As Infinity Online Concert: Acoustic Room’ will be held on Saturday December 19, 2020 at 19:00 JST, and available to watch as an archive until Tuesday December 22, 23:59 JST. Tickets are priced 3,800 yen including tax, subject to an additional booking fee. Tickets are on sale now until December 22, 21:00 JST, from this page:

‘Do As Infinity Online Concert: Acoustic Room’ promises to be an unforgettable performance, presenting two decades of essential Japanese hits in a special new light. Do As Infinity profile
Do As Infinity are a rock band featuring vocalist Tomiko Van and guitarist/vocalist Ryo Owatari. The band formed in 1999; before they made their recorded debut, they performed more than 100 street concerts in Tokyo, building an audience organically in the plaza in front of the famous Hachiko statue at Shibuya Station. On September 29, 1999, they released their first single, ‘Tangerine Dream’, through avex trax.
The band went on to release hit after hit, topping the charts several times with million-selling albums, becoming one of Japan’s most beloved bands. Within the first six years, Do As Infinity had racked up six highly regarded studio albums.
These past few years have seen this veteran band at the top of their game. In 2017, Do As Infinity released a trilogy of singles, beginning with double A-side ‘Alive’ / ‘Iron Hornet’ in June, followed three months later by ‘To Know You’, and finally in December 2017 ‘Keshin no Kemono’, the theme tune to the TV anime series ‘Juni Taisen: Zodiac War’. In July of the same year, they undertook their first tour of South America, performing in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Chile. This was followed by shows in Taiwan, a major festival appearance in Jakarta and a headline show in Singapore. Nearly two decades after their formation, Do As Infinity were still on a roll, with activity around the world.
In 2018, they released ‘Alive’, their first album in three years, before beginning a tour of sold-out shows that would once again take them overseas, with a pair of dates in Taiwan. That year, the band also performed at festivals such as TAC IN in Taiwan and Natsu Rock in Singapore. In September, their first headline concert in Shanghai was a rousing success.
In 2019, Do As Infinity marked their 20th anniversary with a number of concerts, releases, TV appearances and special activities. The B-sides collection album ‘Do The B-side 2’ was released in February; this was followed in June by ‘Lounge’, an album comprising brand-new versions of many of their classic hits, and then in September by a new studio album simply titled ‘Do As Infinity’. In November they even released their own limited-edition sweet-potato shochu beverage, named Mugen, which is Japanese for “Infinity”.
In 2020, while many concerts and festival appearances were canceled or postponed in the wake of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the band maintained their momentum, with the release of compilation albums ‘Tears Selection’ in March and ‘Powers Selection’ in June, and their first digital single ‘Anata wo Tada Aishiteiru’ (‘I’m Just In Love With You’) in July among many highlights.
‘Do As Infinity Online Concert: Acoustic Room’ will close out the band’s 21st year in style – tune in on December 19, 2020 to check it out for yourself!
