Krypton (Season 1) Blu-ray Review)
/By Sean Tucker
“Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this Blog Post. The opinions I share are my own.”
What if Superman never existed? Set two generations before the destruction of Superman’s home planet, KRYPTON follows Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), the legendary Man of Steel’s grandfather, who is faced with a life and death conflict – save his home planet or let it be destroyed in order to restore the fate of his future grandson. With Krypton’s leadership in disarray and the House of El ostracized, Seg must balance the quest to redeem his family’s honor and protect the ones he loves while being challenged by familiar DC characters Brainiac (Blake Ritson) and Earthly time-traveler Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos). KRYPTON is from Warner Horizon Scripted Television and is executive produced by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, The Dark Knight Trilogy) alongside Cameron Welsh. In addition to Cuffe, Sipos and Ritson, the show also stars Georgina Campbell, Elliot Cowan, Ann Ogbomo, Rasmus Hardiker, Wallis Day, Aaron Pierre and Ian McElhinney.
As Justin said in his review last year of Krypton which you can listen here that Krypton needs to be on our watch list. With the release of the Blu-Ray I want to reaffirmed my stance. I admit when I first heard that they were making a show about Superman’s Grandfather my initial reaction was why? Then I actually took the time to watch the show on SyFy was pleasantly surprise how good it was. Krypton does the title of the show justice. What really makes Krypton such a great show is the lore and how introduces an entire culture. There was a lot of detail and care taken in the language, writing, rules and regulations of Krypton. The production value is amazing for the budget given and they make it work. The story of this caste system of the House of El is what I really enjoy the most about it. Seg-El losing his title and not only trying to regain it back but trying to prevent two timelines the fate of Krypton and Superman being erased. Let’s talk about the Blu-Ray and it’s features. Krypton has three featurettes: Bringing the Home World to Life which was a great in-depth look at how the show came about and tons of behind the scenes stuff. A Lost Kingdom: Life on Krypton which gives a great look at the culture of Krypton. Finally Krypton 2017 Comic Con Panel where you see the actors and crew talk about the show. There is also some cool deleted scenes and gag reel which was pretty funny.
Overall Krypton season 1 is a must buy if you’re a fan of DC Comics or Superman. There is some really good surprises and the ending of Season 1 will have you waiting for more. Great things are on the horizon for Seg-El and Krypton.
Pick up the Blu-Ray for sure final rating Buy it!
