Tokyo Ghoul (S.2) Review
/Genre: Action, Psychological
Tokyo Ghoul is an anime about a young teenager who is anti-social and into books, he lived an average life up until this point in time. Until he came upon a girl who seemed to take an interest in him; Taking a plunge he would begin to talk with her, and try to get to know her more. Only for later to be revealed that she had been non-other than a ghoul-- A ghoul being a sort of subcategory human race that survives off of human flesh and blood. As everything else is in-edible to them.
If you've made it this far into the series, you already are well aware of this however. And if you made it this far into the series, you know exactly how far Kaneki has grown. And let me start by saying; he continues to grow further and further at this point. As he turns into something foreign, turns into a monster that you won't hardly even recognize by the end of this. The once innocent man had now turned and succumbed to the demon half of him-- but what are his motives behind it all?
Well, first I suppose I should get into the grit of it. If you have watched the first season, I will be the first to let you know that the second season does not fail to impress with the character interactions. The vibrant and colorful characters, the typical and dull ones-- the broad range of personality and sickness of the mind that you must have to be a ghoul or a ghoul-hunter is vast. Each character they introduce seems to be more complex and interesting then the last, each having their own unique story-lines.
And then the animation quality, well there is not much for me to say about it-- It simply is amazing for the time it is. The animation is something that doesn't leave anything lacking, as it has glorious scenery as well as action sequences; detailed in all the areas it needs to be without wasting a single bit of production value-- I feel they optimized on the pieces that really mattered.
Which brings me to the sounds; Now-- when it comes to music I feel a score can make or break a scene. And in this anime, they managed to meld the music in such a manner that you do not notice the subtly of it-- when it comes in, when it fades out. It all seems to flow very naturally throughout the entire show.
Now, overall-- I will say this anime is not perfect. It has a few qualms that i have with it, but the point is it has very view in my eyes. This show is something that has gore, it has plot twists, it has psychological contradictions that make you wonder of certain things. It is certainly something I feel if you enjoy anime, you would love this one. A must-watch in my eyes, even if not a perfect anime.
