Interview With Actor Ralph Brown
/We had a chat with Actor Ralph Brown we talk about his career in acting, what he is working on and many more.
Otakus & Geeks: You have been in many roles. Has there any role that you did that impacted personally from the story that it's portraying?
Ralph Brown: I think that the role which most impacted me was KARN in a British film SUS made in 2009. Based on a brilliant play by Barrie Keeffe and set on the night of Britain’s General Election 1979, (when Margaret Thatcher was elected) it concerns two racist policemen and a black suspect they believe has murdered his wife. I am very proud of this piece of work.
Otakus & Geeks: How did you get started acting?
Ralph Brown: Edinburgh Festival 1977 - I was doing a Law Degree and found that all of the rest of my colleagues were at Drama School. I saw the light, finished the degree anyway, then started auditioning. I didn’t turn professional until I was 25 yrs old.
Otakus & Geeks: Do you feel that you are much like the characters that you played?
Ralph Brown: Sometimes that is true, but more often I have to find something within myself that may be buried and magnify it hugely
Otakus & Geeks: You have done a lot of sci-fi work from Alien to Star Wars what was it like on set for those films. Did you think it would be a big as it is today?
Ralph Brown: I’m a huge Sci-Fi fan, in particular the work of Philip K. Dick, and working on Alien 3, Star Wars and Lexx was hugely exciting
Otakus & Geeks: What was like working with George Lucas and can tell us a little about working with special effects? As an actor is it more fun to be in a movie with special effects? Does it give you more room to create?
Ralph Brown: I feel lucky to have worked with George because he is such a huge influence on cinema. The conventions are always great fun.
Otakus & Geeks: What is most the challenging part you see as an actor?
Getting up in the morning, learning the lines, but essentially : being believable !
Otakus & Geeks: What other types of movies would you be interested in filming?
Ralph Brown: I’d love to do a Western, and more sci-fi and comic book stuff would be great.
Otakus & Geeks: What other projects are you currently working on?
Ralph Brown: Just finished the first season of Marvel’s Agent Carter at Disney in Los Angeles which was a joy to work on. Also did some work on TURN for AMC, and currently shooting The Blacklist for NBC.
Otakus & Geeks: Any way your fans can reach you via social media?
Ralph Brown: Twitter - I’m RalphWJBrown. Yes, I’m the great pretender !
Otakus and Geeks: Finally words of wisdom for anyone trying to make it as an actor?
Ralph Brown: Stick with it. It is a hugely competitive world, and you will spend a lot of time waiting. You need nerves of steel, and be able to take rejection on a regular basis, and keep coming back. It’s all about confidence, you really need to believe in yourself.
