Otakus and Geeks is pleased to present to you our new popular feature, Cosplayer Spotlight. It is dedicated to showcase talented individuals from the cosplay community. Catch some new talent or get a look at some well-established members from the world of cosplay.

I'm just a Barbie blonde twenty-something from New York who's constantly mistaken for a Khaleesi. I pretty much like all things involving Batman, cosplay, metal and horror. One third of the Cosplay Group Bitches of Cosplay.

How did you get into cosplaying and how long you been doing it?
I started cosplaying when I attended my first NYCC in 2013. Cosplaying gives me the opportunity to portray characters that I've loved for years. Most of the characters I want to cosplay are in comics and when you go to a convention like NYCC, a lot of people recognize who you’re portraying and have an appreciation for your costume that other people wouldn't.

What is cosplay to you?
Cosplay to me is just about having fun being someone else for a day.

Do you have someone who inspires you to cosplay? If so who?
I never had anyone who inspired me to cosplay, but there are cosplayers that I do admire for their portrayal of specific characters. My favorite cosplayer by far is Anthony Misiano aka Harley’s Joker. I actually got to meet him at Wintercon last year! I played it cool, but I was fangirling inside haha.

Do your family and friends know you cosplay?
I would assume so, since my cosplay photos are all over my personal facebook page haha! A lot of my family and friends seem to like it, and have even complimented me on my costumes.

Are you doing cosplay as a hobby or professionally?
Cosplay is just a hobby for me.

Do you only do local or other conventions, as well?
So far, I’ve only gone to local conventions. If I had the means, I’d like to visit other conventions outside of New York in the future.

How many conventions do you go in a year?
Last year, I only went to two conventions. In 2015, I plan to attend at least five local conventions

If you can, cosplay anywhere is the world? Where would it be?
If I could cosplay anywhere in the world, it would definitely be San Diego Comic Con.

When cosplaying what do you feel is most important? (e.g. detail , character portrayal, etc.)
For me personally, I think it’s most important to just feel passionate about the character that you are portraying, and be confident in the costume you are in.

What is your pet peeve when it comes to cosplay?
A pet peeve of mine is when people shame cosplayers for things such as inaccurate portrayals of characters, not having the “right” body type or facial features of the character, and not making your own costume or props. Cosplay should just be about having fun.

Do you prefer to buy or make your cosplays/props?
I tend to cosplay characters that do not have props, so I guess it would depend on the type of prop and if I had the means to construct it on my own.

When deciding on how you want your cosplay to look, what goes through your mind? (e.g. does the fabric/material have to look like the picture)
I usually base my cosplays off either actual versions of the character or fan art. I tend to draw inspiration off other cosplayers if I choose to do a gender bending cosplay.

What type of characters do you enjoy cosplaying?
I love to mostly cosplay comic book characters.

What is your favorite part of putting on your cosplay?
My favorite part of putting on a cosplay is seeing the final product come to together all at once.

How do you choose the characters you cosplay as?
I choose my cosplays by firstly, brainstorming characters that I love whether it be in comics, tv shows or movies and then, by whether that character has a costume that is visually appealing to me.

Are there any cosplays that you wish you could pull off?
No, I am confident in myself that I can pull off all the cosplays I plan to do in the future.

Do you have any cosplays that you will never do and why?
I prefer not to cosplay characters that I do not know of or have any interest in.

Do you believe that a person has to have certain qualities to pull off a cosplay? (e.g. facial structure, etc.)
Looking like the character you’re portraying and having the right costume/wig/shoes/props helps pull off a cosplay, but it’s not necessary. As long as you feel passionate about your cosplay than that should be the only thing that matters.

What are some of your dream cosplays?
I would love to cosplay Batgirl one of these days.

Outside of cosplaying, what else do you do?
I like to spend most of my time hanging out with family and friends, which usually involves NYC adventures, going out to dinner, going to the movies and on some occasions, I get to model for fun with my girls in Bitches of Cosplay.

How do you fund your cosplay?
I fund my cosplay with my own money.

Where do you go most often for photoshoots? Do you do photoshoots?
I do photoshoots locally, mainly in the NYC area.

Do you prefer your images photoshopped or unshopped?
I don't have a preference.
