The New Kpop of 2015—January
/So I'm a serious Kpop fanatic; I love trying to find all sorts of new music from either new groups that just started up, or from older groups. I've decided though to try and cover the bit of new Kpop that has come out since the beginning of 2015!
4Ten (포텐)
Debuting in September of last year, 4Ten is a four woman group made up of Tem (탬), Hyeji (혜지), Eujin (유진), and Hyejin (혜진). While their debut single was "Tornado" (토네이도) they just released a new single entitled "Why" (왜 이래) on January 5th! What is the most surprising is that it was shot in New York City, so while enjoying the song, enjoy spotting familiar scenery of NYC!
FLASHE (플래쉬)
They're definitely well set into the Kpop world since they were formed in 2012, Su A (수아), Na Rae (나래), Ye Ji (예지), and Go Un (고은) recently released their fourth single album, entitled "My Way" on January 7th. Definitely a cute video!
Hexagon of Absolute Light and Organization (헤일로) (HALO)
Definitely a long name, but an awesome group! Formed in June of 2014, Dino (디노), In Haeng (인행), Ooon (오운), Jae Yong (재용), Hee Cheon (희천), and Yoon Dong (윤동), form an adorable six man group with their newest second single album entitled "Surprise" (서프라이즈) on January 9th. Absolutely adorable and a seemingly feelsy song, their cute party captivates the audience. In Haeng's rapping is also pretty good!
Kim Jonghyun (종현)
Ok so we all know SHINee; who doesn't remember the catchy song "Lucifer" from 2010? We know S.M. The Ballad as well, with "Miss You"? And of course, it seems like the SHINee members are taking turns at releasing singles— just last year Taemin captivated us all with "Danger". It's now become Jonghyun's turn it seems; releasing his first solo album entitled "Base" January 12th. One of the two songs is entitled "Crazy (Guilty Pleasure)" featuring Zion.T (자이언티), a rap artist. It definitely shows off Jonghyun's talent, along with expressing the same sexiness that Taemin received as well.
Look At Us (LU:KUS) (루커스)
I definitely consider LU:KUS to be my babies since they still are pretty much babies in the Kpop world. I originally covered them in an older article, which is how I was exposed to them when they first formed in 2014. Made up of J.One (제이원), Donghyun (동현), Kyungjin (경진), Choi (최), and Jinwan (진완), this five man group is absolutely catchy, even with their new second single "Break Ya" (안무영상) in January 13th. Just like "So Into U," LU:KUS features a catchy beat, but also some extremely good dancing skills!
Jackie Chan's Joint Culture (Double JC or JJCC) (제이제이씨씨)
Who would've ever though Jackie Chan was into Kpop? When I covered these boys last, I only knew them to have four members in their first video. Now they are five absolutely astounding boys trying to bring together Asia with their music. E.Co (이코) the Korean, Eddy (에디) the Korean-American, Prince Mak (프린스 맥) the Chinese-Australian, and both Simba (심바) and San Cheong (산청) are Korean, all bring their different backgrounds to create "Fire" (질러), their second album that was released on January 14th. They too show a good amount of skill at dancing, but their harmony is the best of all!
Davichi (다비치)
Davichi is a Pop-Ballad duo that formed back in 2008 with singers Lee Haeri (이해리) and Kang Minkyung (강민경). On January 21st, Davichi released "Hug", with the songs "Sorry, I'm Happy" (행복해서 미안해) and "Cry Again" (또 운다 또). Definitely more ballad-like, but the songs are very powerful and jam packed with emotions that are conveyed easily to you.
SunnyHill (써니힐)
SunnyHill formed back in 2007, and their newest album, which is their first ever album ever, is entitled "Sunny Blues Part.B" and feature the song "Child In Time" (교복을 벗고) on January 26th. Jubi, SeungAh, Misung, and Kota sing a very gentle song that is one that often reminds me of how soft and precious childhood is for everyone. Surely it is a song people will enjoy!
That's it for January! Everyone please enjoy!
