Everyone Give It Up For America's Favorite Hamilton!
/Who ever would have thought of combining a historical time period and a rap and hip hop musical into ONE THING?
Well, apparently Lin-Manuel Miranda did, and based off of Ron Chernow's biography on Alexander Hamilton that he published in 2004. In fact, Chernow became a historical consultant for the entire musical as well.
Now, if you don't know much about Alexander Hamilton, that's ok. Here's a few things to know first:
- Probably the most underrated Founding Father of all the Founding Fathers.
- Created the Treasury of the United States and was the first Secretary of the Treasury, and basically gave the US a reset on debt after the American Revolution.
- Created the Revenue Cutter Service (the current day United States Coast Guard) in 1790, which is the longest continuously running naval service in the United States (though the Navy is the Oldest by being formed first, it did not continuously run like the RCS did).
- Helped promote the US Constitution by writing 51 of the 84 Federalist Papers.
- Fought in the Revolutionary War, and worked side-by-side with George Washington.
- Helped create a two-party system (which is not entirely a good thing in Washington's eyes).
- Founder of the New York Post.
Now, amazingly, Miranda addresses all these facts and more in his musical. Along with a wonderful musical score that many can find easily enjoyable, and a diverse cast, Hamilton seems to be breaking all barriers (and even some records) with the musical. For instance, Guns and Ships with George Washington (Christopher Jackson) and Marquis de Lafayette (Daveed Digs) is the fastest rap in the musical, with 6.3 words sung per second. It's quite catchy, and enjoyable to listen to!
None the less, there are amazing things to find out about this musical, but more amazing things to learn from this musical. If you're interested in seeing it, it's on Broadway in New York City, ranging from $34 to $1440 per ticket. They go amazingly fast, so it'd be best to get yours soon!
Currently, this is the cast of Hamilton:
