Android Angels (Manga Review)
/Wouldn't it be great to live with the perfect woman or perfect man? Android butlers and maids are the future. These short stories are tales from a land beyond, where androids not only protect humans, but also live and are intimate with them. Android Angels depicts a future worlds in which consumers can easily rent android companions, but only for a three-span, leading to questions about the morality of erasing the memories of artificial humans and what happens to human relationships abruptly broken off every three years.
Android Angels is a collection of short stories with a theme of human and android relations. For the most the part the short stories are hit carefully depicting themes of what it means to be human. Writer Kosuke Kabaya carefully places situations that examines how we would react if androids were an everyday thing. One of the best short stories is Plastic Butterfly. In this story we follow Ogawa Taisuke who purchases an android for a month. This story is very intriguing becauses of how Ogawa treats his android. Right from the beginning Ogawa is a character that you will hate. He demands his android to have big breast, wear her hair in pigtails and doesn't even give her name. His sole purpose for android is to obey him and follow orders. What makes this story interesting is that Ogawa acts more robotic than his female android. The android shows more emotion, human elements and even more compassion than Ogawa. With the time limit on how long a human can keep an android, Ogawa starts to change a little bit. He learns that even though she is android she still has some type of emotions and feelings. He starts to see the beauty in this plastic butterfly. Similar to a butterflies early beginnings how it starts off as a caterpillar but becomes much more later. I thought it was great symbolism on Kabaya great writing.
Overall if you're looking for manga that has raises questions on human and android relations, this manga is for you. The story are great touching on such on subjects of advance technology, how some might act with this power and more.
