Office Politics Mobile Game Review

Justin: Here is the review of the I-Phone game "Office Politics." The review was done by Keenan (Bess) who use to be on the site. I asked him to check this game out and review it for us. Check out what Keenan had to say.

Office Politics: Back stab a game by 'Little Drummer boy is wack a mole game with a modern day twist. Upon receiving the request to review this game I was intrigued as well as excited, because having worked in the office environment for the last 9 years, I have witnessed plenty of back stabbing in the corporate world. Did it live up to my expectations or was I the one who got back stabbed at the end?

Gameplay
Solid & Fun are the 1st two adjectives that come to mind. The goal of the game is to back stab your way to the top. Back stabbing is fun and easy, all you have to do is tap on a co-workers back. If a co-worker is facing you and you tap on him, he will attack you causing you to lose life. Its simple pick and play gameplay, as the game progresses this becomes a little tricky. More and more co-workers/enemies pop up on screen as well as a boss who makes the back stabbing difficult with various special powers. This becomes pretty fun as it makes each level unique but none the less the goal remains the same....back stab as many people as you can. Often times I grew tired of the monotony. The game does offer to change things up by allowing you to change characters you play, each character has 2 unique moves to combat the bosses of each of the respective levels.

After stabbing 2 floors of the office consecutively you get a chance to battle the boss in his/her office. Side note: I would love to battle my boss in her office. This is where the game shines! Each boss is unique and the way you defeat each one is so innovative I must say. Even throwing in finishing moves with a street fighter super move like finish at the end. If you fail you go right back down the elevator back to floor one which at times was frustrating, but it made me focus more on the boss which increased the intensity of the boss fight which subsequently lead to more fun.

Audio & Visual
The game soundtrack is solid as well as the sound effects. I was a little disappointed by the fact that I couldn't use my own soundtrack while playing the game as I did with a few other iphone game.
Visuals are amazing in this game! The character designs are amazing. They're drawn great, animated great as well as being funny. Level 6 has a boss that has big breast and blonde hair who's special move lures all the co workers to attack you at once. The variety of characters will make you love this game.

Replay Value
Tons of unlockables in this game. Unfortunately 90 % of the game is locked from the start. You start out with one stage and one character unlocked. Unlocking the 1st few characters and stages no problem but after a while it becomes ridiculous. Combing challenges in game as well as obtaining achievements just to unlock one character is a bit much. Oh can I pick the muscle guy to play with?!? Oh I have to complete the game on hard with Office Bimbo(a character) & get ALL of the gold trophies.....by the way just to pick Office Bimbo you have to beat the game with another character and do similar task. That leads to playing the same 5-6 boards over and over. Some might love this while others might say screw it and spend their idle time elsewhere.

Pros:
Fun Pick up and Play gameplay
Great character design
A nice amount of Depth

Cons
Too many locked items
Many glitches when the game is interrupted by a text message, phone call or a quick exit

Overall Grade B
Bottom Line: The fun made you over look some of the games flaws. One of my favorite I-Phone games.

Interview With Dana Workman

We had a chat with paranormal investigator Dana Workman from SyFy new show "Haunting Highways" we talk ghost, gadgets and more.

OtakusandGeeks.com:  What inspired you to get into paranormal investigating?  How did you get involved with the show?

Dana Workman:   I've always been interested in the paranormal ever since I was little.  I was obsessed with the “X-Files” (obsessed is probably understatement)and I just loved any movies surrounding the topic.  Any type of unexplained phenomena absolutely fascinates me, but on the other end - it does so because there's a huge element of fear, the unknown.  So when the opportunity came about to do the show, it was a no brainer for me.

OtakusandGeeks.com:  Can you tell us about some of the cases you encounter on the show?

Dana Workman: It's interesting, because each of the towns we went to all had a history.  There's a story that originated in these places, and one of the witnesses we interviewed truly believes, now whether that story grew legs, I don't know, ha!  But I definitely think there’s an element of truth in all of these areas.  For instance, Skin Walker Ranch is a place in Utah that was once home to a family who fled the property because of all the unexplained phenomena they experienced. So much so, that the National Institute of Discovery Science bought the ranch to study and carry out their own investigations there.  And that’s just the tip of the iceberg with this place.

OtakusandGeeks.com:  Can you tell us about some of the cool gadgets that you use on the show?

Dana Workman:  We got the opportunity to use some very high tech equipment, I believe one of the more expensive pieces was the flir camera.  This picked up heat signatures- anything from a mouse, to a four legged mammal or sea creature - this thing came in handy quite a few times!  The least fashionable of them all though was definitely the parabolic mic, haha.  It's looks like a large satellite dish that you hold out in front of you, and amplifies the faintest of noises from far distances.

OtakusandGeeks.com:  On the show your encounters are face to face. Was there ever a time when you just had to bail due to danger?

Dana Workman: There were definitely times I repeated "this isn’t a good idea" -  the dangers alone of being outdoors in the middle of the night were scary enough.  From animals, to weather, nature did not spare us at all, that’s for sure.  I had rogue waves coming into my boat during the Bear Lake Beast episode.  The craziest wind storm kicked up out of absolutely nowhere, I've never seen anything like that. But aside from nature, we experienced unexplained things that just fueled our adrenaline to keep going ironically enough - don't ask me how! I look back now, and can't believe we experienced some of the things we did.

OtakusandGeeks.com:  “Haunting Highways” takes place in various locations, South Dakota, Montana, Minnesota, Arkansas and Louisiana. Which state had the most disturbing encounter?

Dana Workman: I think Utah was the most interesting.  There were a lot of little things that added up to being..."weird.” There was one particular instance that stands out in my mind. It was something Jack actually experienced, and he doesn’t get spooked easily at all, so if ears perk up at all,  I KNEW something was up.  He kept hearing a weird “scraping noise” while filming that apparently was growing increasingly closer. We were standing on top of a ridge overlooking a valley at night, and he kept stopping to try and look to see if he could see something. We never figured out what it was, but it was enough to spook me out of there as fast as my little legs could run!

OtakusandGeeks.com:  Aside from dealing with the ghouls and ghost. What else are you working on?

Dana Workman: I’m working on creating and producing a show in the same field - I really do love the paranormal, and unexplained phenomena, so I'm sticking to this genre for now. But I've got my hand in a few different things ;).

OtakusandGeeks.com:  Now comes the part where the readers ask some questions. Dan2k12 asked: If you can choose any place in the world to investigate the paranormal, what place would you choose?

Dana Workman: Since the show aired, we get tons of fan mail suggesting places, and it seems every plausible investigation I look into just tops the next in terms of my interest! For me personally, I love anything with a strong history behind it, from eye witness accounts, to the legend itself, and current sightings- you can't go wrong with a case like that. I've got a growing stock pile -  I'm lucky because Skin Walker Ranch was actually one of the places I have always wanted to check out, and we actually got the opportunity to go.

OtakusandGeeks.com:  Cynthia asked: I always wanted to do some paranormal investigating around my area in Ohio. Is there any tips you can give on how to go about this?

Dana Workman:  Research!! Talk to people, and find out anything and everything. It’s important to be an open minded skeptic and try to debunk anything that has a plausible explanation. Also...patience. Lots and lots of patience!

OtakusandGeeks.com: Finally Dana you have the floor, anyway for your fans to follow you, anything you want to plug and your words of wisdom.

Dana Workman:  Yes of course!  Twitter @danaworkman  and facebook.com/DanaWorkmanOfficial   -  I try to keep my posts interesting, with pictures, and I love sharing stories in the area of the paranormal, UFO's etc.

The Dark Knight Rises Mobile Game Review

Christopher Nolan's Batman has not seen a game adaptation since his first installment "Batman Begins" for the PS2, XBOX & Gamecube. Well at last Nolan's Batman is back in the gaming world well sort of. Batman is back in Mobile gaming form with "The Dark Knight Rises." Is this the game that we deserve?

Story - The story follows key plot points from The Dark Knight Rises film. It's been eight years after The Dark Knight and Batman is retired. It features all the key points from the movie, with a little more to give you more playing time. All the key characters are here from Selina Kyle, John Blake, Bane, Alfred, Gordon and many more. It does give away key plot points so if you have yet to see the movie play till after your seen it.

Gameplay - When I first saw the trailer for the game. I admit I thought this was just going to be a beat em up type of game. Then when I finally brought the game needless to say I was surprised. The Dark Knight Rises is a free roam, action adventure game. Free roam for mobile I thought well it should be with a download of 1.7 GB. The gameplay is done very well. Developers at Gameloft have giving us an entire Gotham City to explore. It's not as big as console version of Gotham City, but for a mobile game it gives us a good map to explore. The game plays into six chapters for the story then leaving you with a free roam part which consider several missions for Batman to complete. Missions can range from stopping thugs, saving civilians, chase sequences and more.

The combat in TDKR is very smooth. It utilizes the free flow fighting style that you see similar in Arkham City, only done the best way a mobile game can execute it. The game is held horizontally while Batman is control by a touch screen analog. You can use the screen to switch the camera views, which can be tricky and sometimes get in the way. However with a little practice you will get use to it, but driving the vehicles and aiming the camera can be a chore sometimes. It wouldn't be a Batman game without his toys and this game has a good amount. Batpod, The Bat and a couple of gadgets are all accessible. The game even features a nice upgrading system which will be a hit or miss with players. The hits is that the more Batman level ups the more equipment he is able to access. Batman will have more attacks, more effect, better armor and more. The miss is that some upgrades require you to spend real money. This is will turn off some folks but most of those upgrades aren't really needed, it's just for extra usage. The only real complaint is the game is relatively easy, it does have some of challenging parts like fighting Bane, but otherwise enemies will fall with a couple of punches.

Gameplay Video

Graphics - The graphics is really good. Gameloft went all out on this one to give us a very dark tone world of Gotham City. You even see some key Gotham locations such as Wayne Tower, Gotham Railroad and The Pit. The frame rate works well on my Samsung Galaxy 2, there have been notable problems with other phones, such as a pink line appearing during gameplay. However I didn't have any of those problems. I also enjoy the great addition of weather in this game. The rain, thunder and lighting effects is a welcome addition to Gotham. Character designs is a hit or miss. Batman and Bruce Wayne looks awesome. Selina Kyle, John Blake and Bane are all done well, some of the thugs look choppy but it doesn't hurt the game.

Sound - The voice acting is done well. Batman sounds just Bale, Gordon, Alfred, John Blake are all done well. However Bane and Miranda Tate sound nothing like the actors but it doesn't matter. The music is whatever you want it to be. If you have TDKR OST on your phone, turn off the game music and play the soundtrack to get that actual music. The game music is done very well, some from the actual movie or made to sound just like Hans Zimmer OST.

Replay Value - The game is fun enough to play over again and again. Plus the addition to the free roam missions after the game should keep you busy while your traveling.

Final Grade B+/8.5 - The Dark Knight Rises is the game we deserved and the game that we needed. It has some issues, but overall it's one of the best mobile games I've played. It's worth the price of $7 bucks. Great gameplay, great production and most importantly fun to play.

The Dark Knight Rises Review

The long wait is finally over. The Dark Knight Rises has come at last. The epic conclusion to The Dark Knight legend. Was this worth all the hype? Does Nolan give the epic conclusion the Batman deserves? Or does this suffer from the same fate of other trilogies?

Eight years have passed since "The Dark Knight." The citizens of Gotham are at peace. Commisoner Gordon has cleaned up the streets with the new bill "The Harvey Dent Act." Batman is viewed as a murder for taking the fall for Harvey Dent's crimes. Bruce Wayne is depressed, never leaving Wayne Manor. However this are about to change when a terrorist by the name of Bane enters the picture to reek havoc on Gotham.

Demon City Shinjuku Review

The War Z Takes Zombie-Survival Into The Massively Multiplayer Arena

The War Z takes zombie-survival into the massively multiplayer arena

Not even the massively multiplayer online (MMO) space is safe from the shambling corpses of the undead: The War Z is an upcoming “survival horror” MMO developed by Hammerpoint Interactive, an independent Los Angeles-based studio formed just last year. Arktos Entertainment Group, a privately held investment firm, clearly believes in the developer’s vision as it has previously invested $4 million into the studio.

Set to release this fall on Windows PCs, The War Z tasks you with the immense challenge of fighting against both zombies and other survivors in huge, open-world maps (ranging between 200 to 400 square kilometers), including large, infested cities. The developers stress the inclusion of “strong role-playing-game elements” with an experience-point system that can be used to purchase new skills for your character.

Safe settlements are scattered across the post-apocalyptic world, and they provide opportunities for you to purchase supplies or sell your own. The developers also tout “unique social elements” in the game, like placing bounties on and sending help requests to other players, who of course may or may not help you, depending on their own agendas.

“The whole team is obsessed with zombie culture as well as with post-apocalyptic games like Fallout,” said Eric Nordin, the senior game designer for The War Z, in the press release. “At the end of the day, we want to ship a game that we want to play ourselves, and we’re hoping that other gamers will recognize our passion and be excited about playing as well.”

It sounds a lot like the popular zombie survival mod, DayZ, for Bohemia Interactive’s ARMA II, right down to The War Z’s Hardcore mode where death is permanent (in DayZ, this is the only option). DayZ, however, is just a side project still in alpha being managed by a one-man team, with constant updates being made almost every week. The War Z, also currently in alpha, has a full-fledged development studio behind it.

Hammerpoint bucks the usual trend of the MMO-subscription model for The War Z by only requiring a single purchase, and it promises free content updates upon release, as well as dedicated public and private servers. For those looking to get in on the action early, a closed beta is in the works.

H Plus: The Digital Series Screening Review

-->
H Plus looks like an A+
Web series.

Hey Otakus and Geeks fans, Sean (True Comic Fan) here, on 7/16 I was given the opportunity to see a screening of the upcoming web series called H Plus: The Digital Series. Before I get into my review, I want to give you the Synopsis of the series:
H+: The Digital Series takes viewers on a journey into an apocalyptic future where technology has begun to spiral out of control.... a future where 33% of the world’s population has retired its cell phones and laptops in favor of a stunning new device – an implanted computer system called H+. This tiny tool allows the user's own mind and nervous system to be connected to the Internet 24 hours a day.

But something else is coming... something dark and vicious... and within seconds, billions of people will be dead... opening the door to radical changes in the political and social landscape of the planet -- prompting survivors to make sense of what went wrong.
A futuristic online series, where the human race is hardwired to the Internet, is coming this summer.  From producer Bryan Singer ("The Usual Suspects” / "X-Men: First Class"), the highly anticipated live-action web series “H+ The Digital Series” will make its debut August 8 on YouTube.  Directed by Stewart Hendler (“Sorority Row”), and starring an acclaimed international cast that includes Alexis Denisof (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), Amir Arison (“Law & Order: SVU) and David Clayton Rogers (“Jane By Design”), “H+ The Digital Series” takes viewers on an episodic, apocalyptic journey where technology has gone horrifically wrong.
Review
I watched two playlists containing twenty webisodes and they were AMAZING! I was so immersed in the story that when it was over, I hadn’t realized I just watched twenty webisodes (thanks to info from the discussion panel). Each episode gives you the story from the perspective of different characters trying to survive and get answers to what cause the incident.
H+ reminds me of one of my favorite anime series Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex. Combining mystery, technology, and drama to create a story that will have viewers wondering what will happen next and how it will all end. This is a series I recommend everyone should check out and something we will be discussing at the water cooler.
Web Features
H+ will have some cool web feature that will give the viewer a unique experience. When you subscribe to H+ the digital series on youtube, you can choose to watch the webisodes and storyline of your favorite character. You will also be able to edit webisodes to create your own viewing experience.

The Good Old Days Of Nickelodeon

Reset your clocks, stop look and watch. Are you ready? Get set... cause we're going back! Did that sound a  little familiar? No! Well it should because I just change the opening intro to the "All That" theme song. Once in a while I get this nostalgic feeling that takes over me. It reminds me of the good old days when television actually sent a message. A time where cartoons had stories with moral value instead of just mindless plots and gags. I want to travel back in time to the good old days of Nickelodeon, when Nickelodeon was the channel to watch. Let's journey back to the good old days of Nickelodeon.

The Game Shows Of Nickelodeon - The Nickelodeon of my era had tons of great game shows. These game shows not only were fun and entertaining, but it also educated you in the process. These shows tested kids mentally, physically and taught good sportsmanship. Some of my personal favorite game shows on Nickelodeon were, "Double Dare", "Nick Arcade", "Legend Of The Hidden Temple", "Figure It Out" and of course my favorite "Guts." These shows were creative, challenging and really made us kids who grew up in the 90's want to be on these shows. I was dying and hoping that Guts would come to New York City, but it never did. Here are some clips/episodes of the great game shows of Nickelodeon.

Legend Of The Hidden Temple

Nick Arcade

Double Dare

Guts

The Shows Of Nickelodeon - I would be here all day if I would to go through all the great shows that were on Nickelodeon back in the day. Just to name a couple, "All That", "Journey Of Allen Strange", "Alex Mack", "Clarissa Explains It All", "Are You Afraid Of The Dark?", "The Adventures Of Pete & Pete" and many more. These shows made us laugh, some made us cry and others made us scared. These shows had some great stories that I would never forget. Who will forget the story on "Are You Afraid Of The Dark" with the brother and sister and one of them happens to be an alien? Everybody will always remember "All That" for great skits such as "Good Burger", "Repairman" or "The Librarian With Laurie Beth." The Nick shows of the past have so many unforgettable moments. But most importantly most of them taught a moral lesson as well as entertain us. Kids were kids back in the days, subjects such as love were touch on, but it was done so innocently that parents didn't care. Nowadays on television junior high school kids are in serious relationships and dealing with issues of cheating. The shows on the old Nickelodeon were original, creative and most importantly had substance. Here is some clips/episodes of some great Nickelodeon shows.

Clarissa Explains It All

All That

Alex Mack

Cartoons Of Nickelodeon - Probably the best thing on Nickelodeon besides the game shows and TV sitcoms was the cartoons. "Rugrats", "Doug", "Ahh Real Monsters", "Angry Beavers", "Rocko's Modern Life" and "Hey Arnold" just to name a few. These cartoons and more were very different than any on television. It was original, creative and thought provoking. It's no secret that my favorite Nicktoon was and always will be "Hey Arnold." There was something really special about "Hey Arnold." It was a show with moral value, substance and at times even made me cry. Episodes like "Arnold Christmas Special", "Parent's Day" and "Pigeon Man" were all tear jerkers. You didn't see cartoons that instill such emotion in you. Doug was a brilliant show but also showed the stages of having a crush, fear of talking to a girl and many more. The cartoons on Nickelodeon were truly ahead of there time and the best part about it, even the adults picked something up from watching it. These toons had substance, made you laugh, and will stand the test of time. Here some clips/episodes of my favorite Nicktoons.

Hey Arnold

Rugrats

Rocko's Modern Life

A toast to golden age of Nickelodeon. The age where cartoons had moral substance and meaning, the characters and moments will stand the test of time. The game shows were wacky, crazy and entertaining as hell. The TV shows were fun, silly, dramatic and scary. A toast to the actors, voice actors, directors, producers who made some of the best programming for kids. A toast to the good old days of Nickelodeon.

Tell us your favorite Nickelodeon shows, moments, characters in the comment section.
